Hundreds of jobs secured at AgustaWestland

HUNDREDS of jobs at Yeovil-based AgustaWestland have been secured with the news of the helicopter manufacturing company gaining two contracts worth a massive £760m.

The contracts come from the Ministry of Defence and will see the company convert 25 Merlin helicopters for use by the Royal Navy, while the second will provide support and maintenance service for the Army for the next five years for its Apache attack helicopter fleet.

The news was announced by Defence Secretary, Philip Hammond, during a visit to the Yeovil firm based in Lysander Road.

It is thought the two contracts will safeguard the future of 1,000 jobs.
