Info meetings for flood-hit villagers

SENIOR staff members from South Somerset District Council will today (Tuesday, January 28, 2014) be meeting with residents in the flood-hit villages of Muchelney and Thorney to offer information and advice.

Officers will be able to help people with info about Council Tax relief, husing, benefits, waste and to take queries about any other council-related services.

The council’s chief executive, Mark Williams, said: “The flooding situation may continue for some time.

“We are providing these emergency council “surgeries” to ensure residents have up-to-date information on what the council and other agencies can do to help and to offer reassurance at this difficult time.”Info meetings for flood-hit villagers

All residents are welcome.  Two surgeries will be taking place simultaneously – one at the Church of St Peter and St Paul in Muchelney and the other at a private residence in Thorney – from 1pm to 3pm.

All residents are welcome and have been contacted.  Further surgeries will be arranged as needed.

Mr Williams added: “We are immensely grateful for the work of the Fire & Rescue Service who visited every household over this past weekend.

“We are collating the information they have provided and ensuring that this is passed to the right agencies to help those people who are in difficulties.”

If you have been affected by the recent flooding and would like help or advice about Council Tax relief, housing, benefits or other services, please speak to an SSDC customer advisor on 019350-462462.
