Twelve months on since blaze at The Bell

Twelve months on since blaze at The Bell

TWELVE months ago today (January 6, 2014) and Yeovil was in shock after seeing one of its most popular and long-established pubs a smouldering wreck following a massive fire.

It was just 4am on Sunday, January 6, 2013, when fire took hold at The Bell in Preston Road.

Firefighters from across Somerset including Yeovil, Chard, Ilminster, Somerton, Martock, Burnham-on-Sea, Bridgwater and Taunton all attended the incident along with officers from across the border in Sherborne, Dorset.

Staff and locals at The Bell, a popular pub-restaurant with a massive beer garden which is a hit for families during the summer, were left saddened and shocked at the fire.

But pub owners, Greene King, had vowed that it was not the end of The Bell and the mission was accomplished when the newly-rebuilt pub re-opened just before Christmas.

The Bell has well and truly risen from the ashes and those unaware of the events of what had happened 12 months ago would be none the wiser.
