A notice has been placed on gates at a field at Ham Hill at Stoke-sub-Hamdon warning dog walkers of an incident which took place Sunday, December 29.

Rangers at Ham Hill, which is managed by South Somerset District Council, have said they believe that the dogs became ill after licking a white powder.

“The powder seemed to have scattered in lines along a number of mole hills and beside the paths,” said the rangers.

“The dogs were immediately taken ill with violent vomiting and were swiftly taken to a vet in Yeovil.”

The notice added: “The ranger team has removed all of the white substance that it could see, but please exercise caution when running your pets in this field.”

The rangers are investigating what the power might be.

Anyone who can help the rangers can email countryside@southsomerset.gov.uk or phone 07971-111993 and leave a message.

A spokesman for the ranger team added: “The police are aware of this incident and the rangers will be liaising with them.”

People with information can also contact local police on the non-emergency number of 101.
