Dog walker rescued from River Yeo after getting stuck

A WOMAN had to be rescued this afternoon (Monday, December 30, 2013) from the water of the River Yeo in Yeovil.

The alarm was raised at just after 4pm to a woman who was stuck in the water after trying to rescue her dog just off of Lyde Road.

Two fire engines from Yeovil and the special rescue team from Bridgwater mobilised, along with an ambulance.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “On arrival the crews found the female chest deep in the water and had been unable to get out due to the angle of the bank.

“The dog had already been rescued by the passer-by who called us for help and who had tied dog leads together and pulled it out.”

The woman was rescued by officers and she was handed over to the care of paramedics.
