Boxing Day walk in memory of tsunami victim

IT is difficult to comprehend but this coming Boxing Day will mark the ninth anniversary of the Indian Ocean Tsunami which claimed tens of thousands of lives – including that of former Preston School and Yeovil College student Piers Simon.

Piers, 33, was killed by the tsunami while he was holidaying in Thailand with his brother, Luke, and friends.

Following his death the Piers Simon Appeal was formed along with the School in a Bag initiative which has raised thousands of pounds to help disaster victims in 11 countries and has provided a gift of hope to nearly 41,000 poor, orphan, vulnerable and disaster-affected children by providing them with a school bag containing items such as notepads, pens, a lunchbox and drinks bottle.Boxing Day walk in memory of tsunami victim

To mark the ninth anniversary of Piers’ death, his family and friends will holding their annual walk to celebrate the achievements of the PSA and School in a Bag charity.

The six-mile walk will set off from Home Farm at Chilthorne Domer at 10am. Refreshments, nibbles and the odd tipple will be available at the halfway point before returning back to Home Farm where soup, lunch and more tipple will be provided.
