Come Dine With Me - Part 3: You weren't expecting that from Mel Dunford!

ROUND Three of the Come Dine With Me experience from the Yeovil area tonight (Wednesday, December 4, 2013) had a touch of Britain’s Got Talent and a Susan “you weren’t expecting that” Boyle moment.

The crazy cider-loving forklift truck driver Mel Dunford was hosting her dinner party on the Channel Four TV show and welcomed to her home PR girl Emmy Webster, businessman Alan Bunter, second-hand car salesman Andy Neil and former local radio station presenter Steve Carpenter.

Throughout the week Mel has come across as rather zany to her co-diners and has the most amazing laugh known to man!Come Dine With Me - Part 3: You weren't expecting that from Mel Dunford!

But not only did she serve up a three-course meal that was given the thumbs-up in the main by her guests, she also provided entertainment that nobody was expecting.

Alan Bunter said that when Mel said she was going to sing a song she had written herself he was fearful as to what they were going to get.

But Mel stunned her guests with a fine performance.

Alan said: “Absolutely fantastic – I wasn’t expecting that.”Come Dine With Me - Part 3: You weren't expecting that from Mel Dunford!

Steve Carpenter said: “It blew me away. It was really really good.”

Andy Neil said: “This was so far off the scale! With a voice like that why is she driving a forklift truck?”

And Emmy said: “She sang a beautiful song and it came from her heart.”

All you needed were BGT presenters Ant and Dec to come in and turn to the camera and say “you weren’t expecting that” – similar to what they did when Susan Boyle started to sing on her debut performance on Britan’s Got Talent in 2009.

Earlier in tonight’s Come Dine With Me episode there was a cameo performance from East Chinnock cider-producer Nigel Stewart at Bridge Farm where Mel got drink for her dinner party.

Mel joked (although we have a sneaky feeling she meant it): “I could spend all day here!”

But later she admitted she was a “risk taker” and that she hoped her dinner party would be “gert lush.”

“I’m hoping to shock them (her guests),” she said. “I might come across a bit dappy and stupid, but I’m hoping they will see I have got a brain cell in my head.”

Mel was scored 30 points out of 40 for her night – to take the lead with Emmy and Steve both having scored 26 earlier in the week.

Each contestant marks their co-diners out of ten for their food and hosting skills and the person with the biggest score will win £1,000.

But while Mel was winning the plaudits of her guests there was mounting tension between Andy Neil and Steve Carpenter.

Steve said: “Andy is a meat and two veg man – give him a pork chop and some mash potato.”

Andy said: “Steve is not joining in and not partaking. Wake up and move on!”

See what happens tomorrow (Thursday, December 5, 2013) at 5.30pm on Channel Four.
