Yeovil's Christmas lights are switched-on

Yeovil's Christmas lights are switched on

HUNDREDS of people gathered in Yeovil town centre this evening (Thursday, November 14, 2013) to watch the Christmas lights switched-on to officially start the countdown to the festive season.

They looked on as the Mayor of Yeovil, Cllr Manny Roper, was joined by Yeovil Town FC manager Gary Johnson, a Harry Styles look-a-like from boy band One Direction, and talented Yeovil College sportsman Jack Goodland, 16, who represented the nation earlier this year in South Africa at the World Transplant Games, to switch-on the festive illuminations.

There was plenty of entertainment before the switch was flicked to illuminate the town centre with music from local band Crimson on Silver and Victoria McCabe who is playing Snow White in this year's forthcoming panto at the Octagon Theatre in Yeovil.

There was other musical performances in the Entertainment Area in Lower Middle Street, while there were plenty of refreshments on offer and there was a puppet show in the entrance to the Vicarage Street Methodist Church.

And there was also that all-important late-night opening for shops so people could start their Christmas shopping for another year.

The Mayor thanked people for braving the chilly weather to attend and wished everyone a merry Christmas.
