Roundabout scheme at Cartgate

PLANS have been unveiled by the Highways Agency to install a £1.25m improvement scheme at the A303 Cartgate roundabout on the outskirts of Yeovil.

The scheme will involve dedicated left-turn lanes from the A303 into Yeovil and from Yeovil onto the A303.

It is expected that the work will start in the autumn of next year and last four months.Roundabout scheme at Cartgate

A Highways Agency spokesman said: “The A303 Cartgate roundabout suffers from queuing and delays as the current capacity of the junction connecting the A303 to the A3088, the main road link to Yeovil, is insufficient.”

The work will involve widening the approach to the roundabout on the A303 westbound to provide a dedicated left turn lane onto the Cartgate link road towards Yeovil, while a left turn lane from Cartgate onto the westbound carriageway of the A303 will also be installed.

The Highways Agency spokesman added: “The scheme improvements will result in improved flow through the junction for traffic leaving and joining the A303 from the A3088.

“The proposals achieve wider benefits in supporting growth in the surrounding area – such as at Yeovil.”

The Highways Agency has warned that there is the potential for the work to cause “significant delays” for motorists.
