Two hundred and twenty-six men from Yeovil went off to war and didn't come home

THE nation will fall quiet at 11am this morning (Monday, November 11, 2013) to mark Armistice Day – the moment when the guns fell silent to signal the end of the First World War in 1918.

A short service will take place at the War Memorial in the Borough of Yeovil before a two-minute silence at 11am.

The siren at AgustaWestland is expected to be sounded to mark the silence.

The terrible sacrifice made during the First World War saw millions of people killed – including several hundred from Yeovil alone.

The names of 226 men who were killed during the First World War are inscribed on the War Memorial.
