We Will Remember Them

We Will Remember Them

THE people of Yeovil will converge on The Borough today (Sunday, November 10, 2013) to pay homage to those from the town who have lost their lives in the First World War, Second World War and subsequent conflicts – the list of names here makes sombre reading and we urge you to read them.

The War Memorial in the town centre was unveiled and dedicated in July 1921. The 29ft high spire-shaped cross was designed by a Yeovil man, Wilfred Childs, and made by Messrs Appleby and Childs, a firm of monumental masons, from the finest Ham Hill stone.

In the grand scale of things of world wars, Yeovil has played a miniscule part on the global stage – but when you look at the numbers of people from the town who have been killed; it makes you appreciate the true magnitude of death and misery created by war around our planet. We Will Remember Them

There will be a parade through Yeovil this morning before a two-minute silence around the War Memorial in The Borough at 11am during which time we will remember those who have fallen.
