Postman is a real Good Samaritan

A YEOVIL postman has been hailed a real Good Samaritan after helping a man who had seriously injured himself while he was out on his deliveries.

Steve Haines was at home in Fielding Road, off of Highfield Road in Yeovil, when the postman called at the door to deliver a package.

It was then that disaster struck.

Steve’s wife, Louise, told the Yeovil Press: “My dog went to run out as the door was opened and Steve went to grab her collar, but he tripped on the doorstep.

“He then went face down onto the edge of our concrete drive.”

Louise said that the postman then helped her husband up and sat him down in the house.Postman is a real Good Samaritan

“He managed to shut the dog in and called for an ambulance,” she said. “I got home about 30 seconds before the ambulance arrived.

“The postman was keeping an eye on my husband as well as making sure my three children, all aged under-four, were all ok.”

Steve was then taken by ambulance to Yeovil District Hospital where he was treated for cuts to his eye and serious concussion.

Louise said: “Steve cannot remember anything about the accident, but apart from that he has made a good recovery."

She wanted to thank the postman for his help and posted a message on the Yeovil Real News page on the social networking Facebook site to try and track him down.

It was not long before the Good Samaritan transpired to be Yeovil postman Danny Toms.

Louise said: “We are very thankful to Danny who knocked on our door a couple of days later to make sure Steve was ok and tell us what had happened because Steve couldn't remember anything.

“We are all so grateful to Danny for what he did. He told us that what he did was only what anyone else would do, which is possibly true, but we are so thankful to him.”

Danny might be modest in his appraisal of the situation and his actions – but the Yeovil Press agrees with Louise and her family that he really is a Good Samaritan and deserves a really BIG thank you!
