THE Gateway Coffee Shop at the Yeovil Community Church has been recognised as a leading restaurant that supports breastfeeding mums.

The GateWay Coffee Shop has been officially crowned the ‘Breast Place to Eat & Drink” by Philips AVENT, a leader in parenting and baby products, who earlier this year launched a search for the safest, cleanest and most welcoming public places for breastfeeding mums in the country.

The Philips AVENT Breast Place Awards champion the work places, shopping centres and public spaces that provide mums with comfortable places to breastfeed and express milk.Yeovil coffee shop is a Breast Place to Eat and Drink!

The winners were chosen by a panel of judges, including TV presenter and mum Cherry Healey who is supporting the campaign.

Deneice Harwin, of Philips AVENT, added: “Ensuring that new mums have safe, clean and private areas to breast feed and express milk is incredibly important, so we’re pleased to have been able to recognise those companies and people that go above and beyond to provide this.

“The GateWay Coffee Shop stood out to our panellist’s for a variety of reasons. We were particularly pleased to hear that the coffee shop has a large table that can be reserved for large groups of mums and babies, ensuring plenty of space for prams, plenty of high chairs, and lots of books and toys to keep the kids entertained."

Juliet Sturgess, one of the mums who regularly visit’s the coffee shop, was very impressed by the friendly and knowledgeable staff.

"When I first started breast feeding, one of the staff saw that I was feeding my baby and came over with a glass of iced water explaining that she knew it was important for me to stay hydrated," she said. "The coffee shop has a great changing facility and it's never a problem if your child makes a mess.”
