STANCHESTER Academy at Stoke-sub-Hamdon is celebrating after achieving its highest ever percentage of students with five or more A*-C grades.

These fabulous statistics include students getting English and Maths in their GCSEs. In addition to the success in GCSEs, Stanchester has achieved a 13% increase in the number of students attaining an English Baccalaureate.

Amongst the overall success of the Academy there were some stand out students.GCSE results 2013: Stanchester Academy celebrates

Another high achiever was Amber Pavy from Ilchester who achieved 3A*s in Science and an A* in Geography, amongst other top results. Amber, who is starting college at Strode in September, said: “I am just so happy, it is hard to put it into words.”

It wasn’t just the girls achieving high results.

But a particularly pleasing performance was Stanchester’s strong outcomes in English Language and Literature, with 100% pass rate. These results are all the more poignant due to last year’s issues with the Government changes to exam board thresholds.

The success of Stanchester’s students has been the result of the combined expertise of staff and their close collaboration with students.

“I couldn’t be more proud of the students’ achievements, particularly in English and Maths this year," said Jen Jacklyn, English teacher and assistant head. "Their strong results will set them up for, what I am sure will be, extremely successful futures."

Head teacher, Judy McBlain , who is progressing onto an exciting new opportunity at the end of the summer, said: “I am so proud of our students’ and staffs’ achievements over the past year and I am really happy to be leaving the Academy in such a strong position.”

The new principal, Jason Beardmore, who will be taking over in September, said: “This is an exciting time to be joining Stanchester, a successful and rapidly-improving academy.

"I am very much looking forward to building on the great work of staff and students, and working with governors and parents to aim even higher in the years to come. Congratulations to Judy, the staff and the students.”
