Congratulations to John and Christine Flatters - a real golden couple

MESSAGES have flooded in today (Monday, August 19, 2013) to John and Christine Flatters to congratulate them on their Golden Wedding Anniversary.Congratulations to John and Christine Flatters - a real golden couple

The couple, who live at East Coker, are well-known as ex-teachers in the area with Mr Flatters – as he is still called even today by former pupils of long ago – spending 30 years as head of physical education at Preston School in Yeovil.

Mr Flatters says that it takes him ages to walk through Yeovil town centre because he is stopped every few steps by former pupils and teachers for a chat; although the Yeovil Press could suggest that it might actually be him stopping people for a chin-wag!

He and Mrs Flatters first met while as students in Cheltenham with Mr Flatters at St Paul’s College and his would-be wife at St Mary’s College.

Mrs Flatters came from Bristol, while Mr Flatters came from Billinghay in Lincolnshire.

They both ended up as teachers with Mrs Flatters at Whitstone School in Shepton Mallet before moving to Yeovil to Pen Mill School, while Mr Flatters was one of the most popular and long-standing teachers at Preston.

Mr and Mrs Flatters have three daughters and five grandchildren.

They have been described as a “golden couple” and everyone at the Yeovil Press hopes they have had a wonderful day to celebrate their 50 years of wedded life together.
