Problem area in Yeovil to be built on

AN area of open space in Yeovil which has become a continual problem with anti-social behaviour is to be built on.

Raglan Housing Association is intending to build two bungalows on the piece of land in Larkspur Crescent.

The land, valued at £70,000 and owned by South Somerset District Council, is expected to be transferred to Raglan on a 125-year lease at a peppercorn rate to allow the association to go-ahead with its building plans.Problem area in Yeovil to be built on

A report going before the council’s District Executive on Thursday (July 4) said that the land had not been fulfilling any particular function although it had been the scene of some “difficult incidents of anti-social behaviour.”

The report added: “The local PCSOs and our open spaces officer support the proposed development of the site as a means of reducing anti-social behaviour.

“Regular maintenance ceased some time ago in the hope of dissuading people to gather there and is in fact ideally located for a residential development.”

Councillors are also being asked to award an £82,000 grant to Raglan Housing Association to go-ahead with the building of the two bungalows which will fall into the “affordable housing” bracket.
