All set for whacky races!

FOUR whacky lads from the Yeovil area have made the final line-up in the adrenaline-fuelled Red Bull Soapbox Race 2013 - which will be taking place on July 14 at Alexandra Palace in London.

The intrepid four have joined forces to form ‘Here for Beer’ and fended off stiff competition from hundreds of entries to join the final after creating the human-powered soapbox in the form of an Apache Helicopter.

Will Miller, 23, Bruce Pitman, 25, Rich Gliddon, 23, and Callum Langford-Snape, 21, impressed the judging panel with ‘The Apache Helicopter Soapbox ’– a testament to what the boys are truly talented in which is building Apache Helicopters for the Ministry of Defence. All set for whacky races!

The team will now travel to London ready to race on July 14 when they be careering downhill at Alexandra Palace as they compete against the clock, battling jumps, bumps, curves and swerves in their quest to be crowned the winner.

The race is the ultimate challenge for both experienced racers and amateurs to design, build and race their own outrageous soapbox dream machines.

The nutty foursome from Yeovil is one of 70 groups taking part in Red Bull’s Soapbox Race, which is back in the UK after a nine year hiatus.

Will said: “Our inspiration to enter the Red Bull Soapbox Race was to build something completely different but still being relevant to ourselves. Also the fact that we get to wear a real pilot’s uniform and ‘fly’ a helicopter is pretty awesome!

“The Red Bull Soapbox Race has always been something we have all wanted to take part in so when we heard it was returning to the UK not being accepted as a final entrant was NOT an option for us! We’re in it to win and so excited!”

Rob Marshall, Chief Designer at Infiniti Red Bull Racing and Red Bull Soapbox judge said, “The judges were impressed with Here for Beer’s whacky entry, dedication and enthusiasm. It’ll be a tough race on the day that will test their speed, creativity and showmanship, but we’re sure this courageous lot from Yeovil will persevere to the end.”

Anyone wanting to support the team and give them a lift on the day can book £5 tickets at www.redbullsoapboxrace.co.uk .

The course opens to the public at 10.30am, racing commences at 12pm and the winner is crowned at 4pm.
