Taxi driver sees car washed away

A POLISH taxi driver from Yeovil got more than he bargained for when he went to enjoy a day at the seaside.

Krzysztof Tomaszek had parked his car on the beach at Brean Sands, near Burnham-on-Sea, yesterday and went off for a walk – only to return to find his Ford Mondeo completely surrounded by water.

Speaking to the Burnham-on-Sea.com community website, he said: ‘’I drove onto the beach at 4.30pm and when I bought my parking ticket someone said I could stay until the beach closed at 8pm, but I was unaware that there was a very high tide.Taxi driver sees car washed away

‘’We went off for a walk and I was shocked to come back and find the car surrounded by the sea.

‘’I managed to get in and tried to drive it away, but the engine kept cutting out and two guys helped me out of the car by opening the driver’s door and getting some belongings out. They were just great.’’

There have been numerous motorists caught out by the incoming tide down the years at Brean, although this was the first incident for two years.
