Night in the cells for police officer

A POLICE officer will be learning what life is like on the other side of the law tonight (Tuesday, April 9) when she begins a 24-hour marathon stay in a prison cell – all in aid of charity.Night in the cells for police officer

Georgie Crittenden will be hoping to raise a load of cash for the Flying Colours Appeal in aid of the special care baby unit at Yeovil District Hospital as a way of thanking them for the support she and her family received when she gave birth to triplets at the hospital in February 2009.

Now she is getting ready to go behind bars from tonight at 7pm through to 7pm tomorrow (Wednesday, April 10).

“I am a police officer and wanted to do something totally different to raise as much money as I could for the Flying Colours Appeal,” she said.

“Being locked away for 24 hours in a dingy cell with only prison food and tea to keep  me going is not something I relish I have to say – but I wanted to do something which would challenge me.

“And that challenge is not seeing my boys – although I’m not sure how I’m going to survive without my mobile phone.”

On a more serious side Georgie, who is married to well known former Yeovil Town footballer Nick Crittenden, said: “The staff and the SCBU unit were outstanding ensuring that the planning and the birth was as smooth as possible.Night in the cells for police officer

“I was very fortunate that Ollie, Alfie and Harry were born with no major complications and fortunately for my husband and I there was enough space in the SCBU unit to keep us all together.

“This I sadly have to say is not always the case, particularly for multiple birth families where babies and parents are often separated and cared for in different parts of the country; this not only causes an enormous strain emotionally but also financially.”

And Georgie said that she would love to raise as much money as possible for Flying Colours.

“Please dig deep,” she said.
