Three cheers for Yeovil Beer Festival!

ORGANISERS have declared the first-ever Yeovil Beer Festival an overall success – much better than they expected.

Both days of the festival, held at Yeovil College, on Friday and Saturday were trouble free and hundreds of people enjoyed a fine array of beers and ciders, great food plus live music from an excellent line-up of acts.

The community event was a joint venture between Yeovil Round Table, Lions Club of Yeovil and staff and students of Yeovil College to raise money for local causes.

And already there is talk of ‘roll on next year.’’

The clean-up operation has been carried out today (Sunday) and organisers have said that nobody would have known that the college site had been turned into a beer drinker’s heaven for the past couple of days.

A spokesman said: ‘’We’d like to thank all of the volunteers from Yeovil College, Yeovil Lions and Yeovil Round Table for giving all of their time for free, put on an excellent event and raised considerable funds for charity.

‘’We’ve had really good feedback and ‘yes’ we will do it again.Three cheers for Yeovil Beer Festival!

‘’We will learn from our mistakes, but most of all we have made a stash of cash for charity and I am really grateful to the Yeovil massive!’’

One problem they faced was that they started to run out of supply on the Saturday night – especially the cider – so more had to be brought in to meet demand.

Perhaps the organisers did not realise that the ‘Yeovil massive’ are a thirsty bunch once they get going!

Rob Sherwood, of Yeovil Ales, who helped to organise the event, said: ‘’The other problem we had was that people said it was a cold on the Friday night – but there isn’t a lot we can do about the weather.’’

But they were blessed with great weather on the Saturday.

Roll on next year – this event is bound to get bigger and better each year.
