Chris is the new King of the Hill

RUNNER Chris Burton is the new King of the Hill in the Yeovil Half Marathon after setting a new record time on Sunday.

Burton, of Yeovil Town Road Running Club, raced up the daunting Hendford Hill in just 2mins 12seconds - just three seconds ahead of runner-up Matthew Day, while third was Matthew Young who was just another one second adrift.

His time of 2mins 12secs beat the previous record set by Brad Goggin in 2012 by eight seconds.

There was another strong display from Adie Kirby who finished the King of the Hill section in fourth spot in 2mins 20secs.

Kirby came second in 2012 in 2mins 24secs and was the winner in 2011 - the first time the Yeovil Half Marathon was held - in 2mins 25secs.

There was another strong King of the Hill run from Mike Pearce, of Crewkerne Running Club, who finished ninth in a time of 2mins 37secs.

Pearce came seventh in 2012 with 2mins 42secs, while in 2011 he was 17th with 2mins 55secs - so he is improving year on year.

Overall half marathon winner Ben Tickner was fifth in the King of the Hill section with a time of 2mins 25secs.

Overall ladies half marathon winner Holly Rush came a superb 13th in the King of the Hill in a time of 2mins 42secs - a women's record for Hendford Hill.
