Parking restrictions to be lifted around Milford School?

PARKING restrictions around Milford School in Yeovil look set to be removed in order to make it easier for parents to park easier at the start and end of the school day.Parking restrictions to be lifted around Milford School

There have been constant problems around the school with parking issues and this has led to safety concerns when children are being dropped off for school in the morning and then picked-up again at the end of school in mid-afternoon.

Now Somerset County Council is proposing to remove traffic restrictions in a number of roads around MilfordSchool – Elmhurst Avenue, High Lea, Ashford Grove, Chelston Avenue, Glenthorne Avenue and Folly Fields.

There will be an area of ‘limited waiting’ in Elmhurst Avenue from 8.30am to 9.15am and then again from 2.45pm to 3.30pm on Mondays to Fridays, while other existing waiting restrictions will be lifted.

Jo Sharp, of the county council’s traffic management team, said: ‘’The reason for proposing this Traffic Order is to simplify and rationalise the parking restrictions in this part of Yeovil near MilfordSchool.’’

Members of Yeovil Town Council’s buildings and civic matters committee have been asked to comment on the proposals.

A town council spokesman said: ‘’Councillors will recall that this part of Yeovil is the subject of a traffic-calming scheme that was implemented by the county council in 2000 with the support of the school and local residents – at the request of the town council.’’

Members of the town council’s buildings and civic matters committee meet on Tuesday (March 19).
