Hat-trick for apprentices

THREE apprentices from one Yeovil-based organisation have been recognised for their achievements.

Elliott Watts, Katy Haines and James Lynch, who all work for Yarlington in Yeovil, have been shortlisted for the award of Apprentice of the Year, and will learn if they have won the coveted title in March.

Elliott and Katy, who both joined the organisation as corporate apprentices in September 2011, are in line for the award from Somerset Skills and Learning, whilst James, a retirement living team leader, who recently completed a leadership course, is shortlisted for the Educations + Training Skills title.

Yarlington chief executive, Gary Orr, said “We are so proud of this fantastic achievement. We are committed to investing in our staff, and this is real evidence that the apprenticeships are beneficial to our organisation. I wish them all well in the finals."

Elliott said: “I was really surprised to be shortlisted. It was fantastic to be nominated for this award let alone shortlisted - that was a bonus!”

Katy added: “I am over the moon. I feel honoured and proud that I have been able to work towards this opportunity with the support from my colleagues at Yarlington.

“I was studying two NVQ’s at the time so it has been hard work but it’s paid off and I am really chuffed to be nominated for this apprentice award - especially at my age!” concluded James.
