Councillors are tonight (Monday) discussing proposals to give people living around the Milford Park area the chance to get fit in the gym - for free.

South Somerset District Council is looking at the possibility of developing and installing Outdoor Gym facilities at Milford Park.

Community health and well-being project manager, James Duvall, will be meeting with Yeovil Town Council's grounds and general maintenance committee tonight to explain more about the proposals which are being designed to help address some of the 'health, social and economic inequalities' of the area.Outdoor gym for Milford Park?

Mr Duvall said: ''An outdoor gym is a gym built outside in a park, with the all-weather construction of its exercise machines somewhat modelled on playground equipment.

''The proposal is that the Outdoor Gym will form part of a wider development to the park with additional footpaths being installed and current footpaths being improved to establish a circular link around the outside of the current recreation ground.

''This will improve the access to the park and Milford Hall, increasing accessibility for wheelchair and pram usage and forming a potential extra facility of running routes linking a scheme call three, two and one running miles measuring markers and the fitness equipment.''

The aim is to install these systems around the park to form a 'fitness trail.'

Councillors will be told tonight that the project could cost up to £50,000.
