Teresa to take the plunge for Flying Colours Appeal

IT is doubtful that well-known Yeovil pool player Teresa Samuel will be at the front of the cue – or we should actually say ‘front of the queue’ – when it comes to her taking part in a charity abseil next month.Teresa to take the plunge for Flying Colours Appeal

But Teresa, 41, who is petrified of heights, will be making the plunge to abseil 100ft off Yeovil District Hospital on Saturday, March 9, to raise funds for the Action for Children charity and the hospital’s very own Flying Colours Appeal.

‘’Most people who know me will know that I am scared of heights, so it’s natural for me to abseil off the roof of the hospital!” she joked.

‘’But I have chosen to do it to support both of the charities as I wanted to give something back for the care my son received at Yeovil Hospital.’’

Her son Michael, aged 19, had to undergo emergency treatment at the hospital earlier this year after suffering severe pancreatitis.

‘’He was only given 24-48 hours to live, but thankfully he pulled through,’’ said Teresa. ‘’Without the staff at Yeovil District Hospital and he might not have been so lucky, so that’s why I’ve decided to put my fear of heights behind me to take on this charity abseil.’’

The fundraising event takes place the day before Mother’s Day and Teresa feels she is one very lucky mum to have her son still around.

Teresa, who has two other sons Chris, 22, and four-year-old Robbie, said: ‘’My boys mean the world to me!”

“With sponsors and collections I have managed to raise £858.76 so far,” she added. ‘’There are a couple of weeks to go and I reckon I will raise at least £1,000 for the abseil challenge.”

Teresa has her own on-line fundraising page at http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/TeresaSamuel and is hoping as many people as possible will support her.

‘’Please dig deep,” she said. “I know that I have some really generous friends, so by fundraising for both, I know I can raise a great sum for both charities.”
