Royal Navy medals stolen in burglary

Now police are appealing for information to help get the medals back so they can be returned to their owner.

A police spokesman said: ''Among items stolen in the burglary were some distinctive naval medals belonging to the victim's late husband.

''The medals are for long service and good conduct and have the name Alan G Newham engraved around the edge. The medals have huge sentimental value to the owner.''

Other items stolen included jewellery and a 40-inch television.

The police spokesman added: ''We are also urging antique shops, pawnbrokers, car boot sellers and second hand shops to be vigilant and to contact us if they have any information.''
