Dog rescued from house fire

A DOG was rescued this morning by firefighters following a blaze at a home in Yeovil.

The alarm was raised at just after 10am to a fire at a property in Wentworth Road and two fire engines from Yeovil were initially mobilised and on arrival officers found smoke coming from the building with possible people inside.

Two further fire engines from Yeovil and Martock were mobilised, along with a command unit from Street and a supporting pump from Ilminster.Dog rescued from house fire

A spokesman for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: ''Crews entered the property and found the fire to be on the first floor, there were no persons reported but one dog was rescued by fire service personnel.''

The spokesman added: ''There was severe fire damage to the bedroom of the property and severe smoke damage throughout the rest.  The cause of the fire was accidental.

''Smoke detectors were fitted and activated, which alerted the neighbour to the fire.''
