Linda's on London Marathon trail for MND

A MEMBER of Yeovil Town Road Running Club is hoping to run up a big bucket load of cash for charity by taking part in the London Marathon on April 21.Linda's on London Marathon trail for MND

Linda Membury, who gained her marathon spot through the Yeovil club, will be running on behalf of the Motor Neurone Disease Association in memory of her late father-in-law, Richard Membury, who died at St Margaret’s Somerset Hospice in Yeovil on March 17, 2011, aged 67 – just eight short months after being diagnosed with MND.

‘’With hindsight it seems that he may well have had MND for a long longer than that, but with so little known about the causes of the condition it is extremely hard to diagnose,’’ she said.

‘’That is why research and funding is so, so important. I hope to raise a worthwhile amount of money to honour the memory of a wonderful man.’’

MND is a progressive disease that attacks the motor neurones, or nerves, in the brain and spinal cord.

This means messages gradually stop reaching muscles, which leads to weakness and muscle wasting. There is no set timescale for this, it may take weeks, months or even years but the end result is almost always the same. It can hit anyone at anytime, and we just don’t know why.

MND can affect how you walk, talk, eat, drink and even breathe. However, not all symptoms necessarily happen to everyone and it is unlikely they will all develop at the same time, or in any specific order.
