New minibus for Fiveways School

New minibus for Fiveways School

FIVEWAYS School in Yeovil is to be presented with a new wheelchair-accessible minibus on Tuesday (Feb 5) - thanks to the Lord's Taverners charity.

Fiveways School caters for 63 young people up to the age of 25 with severe, profound and multiple learning difficulties. The Yeovil school provides a specialist education centered on the individual needs of its children.

The new 13-seat wheelchair-accessible minibus (similar to the photo above) from The Lord’s Taverners, costing £48,000, will change the lives of the Fiveways youngsters, enabling pupils to explore the local environment through day trips and after school activities, an opportunity they would not otherwise have had.

Fiveways School’s minibus has been made possible thanks to the support of the England and Wales Cricket Trust (EWCT). The trust is donating £20,000 towards the Yeovil school’s minibus, the second of two Lord’s Taverners minibuses sponsored by the EWCT after Langdon College in Salford received the first in November 2012.

The Lord’s Taverners, the UK’s leading youth cricket and disability sports charity, will donate over £3 million this year to help give young people a sporting chance. The charity donates one minibus every 10 days to organisations such as Fiveways School and presented its landmark 1,000th minibus in September 2012 during a special presentation at Essex County Cricket Club.

Giles Clarke, chairman of the England and Wales Cricket Board, will join representatives of the Lord’s and Lady Taverners to hand over the minibus to the school.
