Speeding fears along Lyde Road

MOTORISTS using the busy Lyde Road in Yeovil appear to be taking no notice whatsoever of the fact that they are driving in a 30mph speed limit.Speeding fears along Lyde Road

A speed indicator device – which ‘flashes’ at drivers who are going over 30mph - was placed on the key road in the town from November 12-20.

During that time it monitored the speed of 19,299 motorists and less than 4,000 were found to be keeping to the speed limit.

Members of Yeovil Town Council’s buildings and civic matters committee will hear on Tuesday that the majority of those monitored were driving between 30mph and 40mph.

Worryingly, however, 2,358 were found to be driving between 40mph and 50mph, while 71 were found to be driving over 50mph in what is very much a residential area.
