Triplets doing well at Yeovil Hospital

STAFF at Yeovil District Hospital are celebrating the birth of healthy triplets.

Identical twin girls and a boy were born to husband and wife, Kasia Czechowska and Michal Czechowski, by caesarean section.

Leon weighed in at 4lb 12 oz, Anna was 3lb 11 oz and Zofia was 3lb 8 oz. All three babies are doing well in the Special Care Baby Unit at Yeovil District Hospital.

Kasia and Michal are hoping to take the triplets, who were born on December 27, home in two weeks when their feeding has improved and they have put on more weight. The family live in Yeovil.

Kasia said: “The care here at the hospital has been brilliant. We have been very well looked after.”

Neil Tomlin, associate director of nursing and head of midwifery said: “It has been a really heart-warming story to see these triplets born here at the Yeovil Maternity Unit.

"Apart from a few days separation the triplets have been able to be together as a family here in Yeovil making life for mum and dad a little easier.

"We hope that they continue to grow at their current rate and are able to go home within the next few weeks. Our SCBU team have managed to support mum and dad really well despite the quite cramped conditions which is why we are looking to improve the environment for all our families in the future. ”

Yeovil District Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is currently running £500,000 campaign to build a new Special Care Baby Unit.

The new unit will have lots of space between cots, more privacy for mums, more space for critical equipment, better security, more space for visitors, a private room for staff to talk to families and a room for families to relax and spend time with their baby while they are visiting.
