White powder was not harmful

THE 'white powder' which saw a Yeovil store closed down and cordoned off by emergency services yesterday has been described as 'unharmful.'

The Wilkinson's store in Lower Middle Street was closed after an envelope was opened in an office at the premises and a white powder was found.

The store was closed yesterday afternoon as emergency procedures kicked-in and shoppers and staff were asked to leave the building.

But a police spokesman said this morning: "Shortly before 6.30pm yesterday the Fire Service advised that the white powder was not harmful, the police cordon was lifted and the shop opened a few minutes later."

The spokesman added: "Shoppers and employees who were inconvenienced yesterday are thanked for their patience while we dealt with the incident."
