Missing Philip Eyre: Body discovered in Somerton

THE body of a man - thought to be that of missing Philip Eyre (pictured) - was found this afternoon near to Huish Lane in Somerton.

Police announced just before 6pm this evening that the discovery was made by a member of the public and although formal identification has yet to take place, officers believe it is Mr Eyre. 

A police spokesman said: ''We would like to thank the public for their help in relation to this matter.''

Mr Eyre, of Somerton, who worked at AgustaWestland in Yeovil, was last seen at 5.30pm on Wednesday, December 5, when leaving his home. His silver Peugeot 206 was found the following morning abandoned in Charlton Mackrell.

An extensive search was carried out to no avail.
