Has anyone seen Dereck the Dalmation?

REBECCA Brinsford is hoping that Father Christmas will bring her someone very special this year – Dereck the Dalmation. Has anyone seen Dereck the Dalmation?

The Yeovil schoolgirl has been left heartbroken for the past two years ever since Dereck vanished and has been hoping that she is reunited with her loveable companion.

Mum Holly Brinsford said that Rebecca was given the seven-inch ‘beanie’ toy when she was born in September 2005 and they quickly became inseparable.

“The beanie was named Dereck the Dalmation because Rebecca’s words were ‘derr, derr,’ and she always had him wherever she went,” said Holly.

''But Dereck caused a lot of 'stress' because we had to make sure he was never left behind anywhere; he often got lost in bedding and clothes, but he always turned up,

“We did lose him Sainsbury’s in Street for four weeks once, however, but fortunately he turned up – found under the shelving units.”

But Dereck went missing when they moved out of their home in West Hendford, Yeovil, in November 2010 and although they hoped he would re-appear during the unpacking at their new home in Mudford Road  it was not to be.

The family now live in Allingham Road, Yeovil, and Rebecca still yearns for the return of Dereck and although she has a very close look-alike she has for comfort, she still gets upset when she thinks about her lost beanie.

Holly said: “I know it sounds crazy, but Dereck was like part of the family and any parent who has been in the same position will fully sympathise.

“Every Christmas when my daughter sees Santa she asks for Dereck’s safe return. It always brings a tear to my eye.

“I know chances are extremely remote that the real Dereck will come home to us as he was threadbare when we lost him with his ears having been sewn back up numerous times, but there must be another one out there somewhere at the bottom of someone’s toy box?

“Where did all the Derecks go that were for sale in Tesco Yeovil in September 2005?”

Dereck has a material label sticking out of his bottom with Tesco on and part of the Puppy Pals collection – although when he was bought in 2005 he and the rest of the dogs were being sold off in a bargain bucket bin for less than £1 at the store.

But Holly appealed: “Please help us find Dereck and make one little girl’s Christmas dream come true.”
