Brave Isaac lights up the night

BRAVE lad Isaac Flory was the centre of attention tonight as he was given the honour of officially switching-on the new floodlights at Chard Town FC. Brave Isaac lights up the night

Isaac, three, son of Chard manager Nick Flory, was diagnosed with leukaemia earlier this year and has spent many months receiving treatment at Bristol.

Isaac is now in remission after what Nick has described as the most ‘horrendous seven months of my life’ and was delighted to be at Chard’s Zembard Lane ground with wife Claire and daughter Olivia for the switching-on of the club’s new floodlights.

And Isaac needed no encouragement in stepping forward to push the plunger to illuminate the ground with the help of his dad and sister.

Nick said: ‘’It has been the most horrendous seven months of my life, but Isaac is in remission so I am thankful for every second we have here.

‘’I would like to say thank you for all the support shown to my family from everyone at the club – I really cannot put into words what that meant knowing they were behind us.’’

Nick thanked club chairman Willie Whitelaw for coming up with the idea of inviting Isaac to switch on the lights.

Chard are going well in Division One of the Toolstation Western League and Nick is hoping that they can go on to win the title.

‘’Isaac was so excited about switching on the lights and having him back home after a living nightmare for him will hopefully spur the lads on and have a successful season,’’ he added.

Nick and his family live in Yeovil and have received great support from many people. His colleagues at Screwfix in Yeovil, where he works, held an amazingly successful fundraising Evening for Isaac in October at the Westland Leisure Complex in Yeovil.

‘’People have been so kind,’’ he said. ‘’I really can’t thank people enough for their support – it has meant so much.’’
