Moving car hit by falling tree at Chinnock Hollow

THE occupants of a car which was hit by a falling tree at East Chinnock escaped without injury.

The A30 Chinnock Hollow remained blocked last night after the tree fell on a moving car and the road will stay shut this morning.   Moving car hit by falling tree at Chinnock Hollow

A spokesman for Somerset County Council said: "Thankfully the occupants of the car were fine, although shaken by what happened.

"Tree surgeons inspected the site last night, but were unable to safely attempt the tree's removal. But work started this morning at 8am and should take at least four hours to complete."

Road problems on the A30 at West Coker have now been resolved. The A30 High Street had been closed both ways due to a fallen tree at Gooseacre Lane, but the road is now back open again.

Elsewhere, the A371 Lawrence Hill at Wincanton is closed after a tree fell within the embankment. The road is likely to remain closed for much of the day.

And a clean-up operation is underway on the A3088 Cartgate Link Road on the outskirts of Yeovil following a second landslip in the same location. Traffic lights remain in force while work is carried out to make the area safe.
