Toddler fun at Birchfield Park

A £15,000 grant from the Yeovil Recreation Charity has given local young people a brand new toddler climbing frame and agility trail to explore in Birchfield Park.   Toddler fun at Birchfield Park

Cllr Tony Lock secured the funding and the exciting new equipment was chosen in consultation with Birchfield Residents Association who have supported the on-going improvements to this play area in recent years.

Robert Parr, Senior Play & Youth Facilities Officer explained more about the new equipment. “The new climbing frame enhances the play opportunities for toddlers and features harder steeper accesses and a 1.2m platform to give children the feeling of being up high.

“Once there, they can view out through the binoculars, sit and chat to their friends, or exit down the high 1.2m double width slide. A compact two-deck system encourages physical and social play. Additionally, a wooden log and rope agility trail has been installed to encourage children to climb, balance and challenge their abilities, while having great fun.”

Cllr Sylvia Seal, the district council's leisure and culture spokesman, said: "This extra funding from the Yeovil Recreation Charity is a real boost to our work in making this play area a destination for play for the residents in this part of Yeovil and we are very grateful for their support.

"The play area already offers lots of play opportunities but this new equipment is a great addition for the toddler age group.

“We hope these new facilities are enjoyed and respected by all, and if anybody sees damage to the park or play area, please report it to the police and the District Council as soon as possible.”

Cllr Lock added: "I was really pleased to be able to secure this funding for the play area. I know from speaking to residents that the addition of more toddler equipment was a welcome improvement.

"I'm committed to seeing the continued improvement of the recreation facilities at Birchfield Park as it's important for people to have access to these areas to keep fit and healthy.”
