COUNCIL bosses are planning on creating more much-needed car parking spaces in Yeovil town centre.    More car parking for Yeovil town centre

South Somerset District Council has submitted a planning application to demolish the old A. Stevens Ltd factory which is sited in South Street and joins the existing Box Factory car park.

The council has bought the A. Stevens factory and wants to pull it down in order to create an extra 32 spaces for public car parking in town.

There are currently 129 spaces, including nine disabled bays, at the existing Box Factory car park.

The council's property services engineer manager, Gary Green, said that demolishing the building would avoid the possibility of vandalism or create health and safety issues for the public if the property was allowed to fall further into disrepair.

Access to the planned car park extension would be through the existing entrance and exit off South Street and the car park would not be accessible via Woodland Grove.
