AMANDA Jane Broom, of the Conservatives, will take her place on South Somerset District Council to represent the Chard Combe Ward. She polled 514 votes to beat Liberal Democrat candidate Steve Warwick by 64 votes. Third was Jon Lewes, of the Green Party, with 148 votes.

INDEPENDENT councillor Andrew Turpin has maintained his position on South Somerset District Council by seeing off the challenge of Conservative and Liberal Democrat candidates. Cllr Turpin polled 608 votes with Conservative candidate Russ Wardell second with 552 in the Tatworth and Forton Ward. Robin Munday, of the Liberal Democrats, came third with 435.
