YEOVIL NEWS: Ready, steady, bake! New owners at Cake Box

A MUCH-LOVED and well respected bakery in Yeovil is hoping to build on its success with new owners at the helm.

The Cake Box Bakery has been taken over by local couple Rob and Deb Gingell who are looking forward to bringing their own touch to the business following the retirement of the previous owners.

The Cake Box is a traditional bakery, producing a range of delicious and enticing hand-crafted products from its premises in Wessex Road.

Rob has over 20 years of bakery experience and has been employed in the catering industry for over 30 years.

Meanwhile the new venture is like a homecoming for Deb who was born in Wessex Road and has fond memories of visiting the shop as a child.

Alongside a range of bread and rolls, the Cake Box has a fantastic reputation for baking some of the best cakes in town.

These range from huge Danish pastries, Chelsea buns and fresh cream eclairs to Viennese whirls, cupcakes and the ever-popular Australian crunch.

New to the shop are freshly-baked raspberry iced buns filled with jam and lemon iced buns with lemon curd. But get there early before they sell-out!

The shop is also well-known for its delicious cheesecakes, which can be bought by the slice, or a whole one for a family treat!

They also offer a range of filled rolls, all freshly-made overnight, and a selection of savoury pastries.

Rob said: “We are delighted to have taken over this popular business which has become a firm favourite with many people over the decades.

“We are looking forward to meeting all our existing customers and attracting new ones to sample our goods, as well as offering office cake deliveries which are ordered before 2pm the previous day.

“We also supply a range of local businesses with daily deliveries of bread and rolls and welcome new enquiries.”

Plans for the future include introducing a hot counter to provide freshly baked savoury goods along with fresh coffee, tea and hot chocolate.

The business also plans to extend its range of speciality breads in the future as well as offering locally-produced goods, including organic honey, to support other businesses in the area.

Rob and Deb also hope to further the cause of autism locally through their shop, as their son has the condition and is now a Young Ambassador for the National Autistic Society.

They have signed up for the charity’s special “Autism Hour” campaign in October (October 5-12) where shopkeepers are encouraged to dim the lights and keep noise to a minimum as people with the condition are prone to sensory issues.

Deb said: “Autism and the National Autistic Society are very close to our hearts and we will have information about the condition available during the week, or just pop in for a chat.

“It can be very isolating for families, and as our son is now an adult we have experienced many issues over the years and want to reach out to others in the same situation.”
