A YAOS spokesman said:  “We love the show and the music and although Sondheim is challenging music, our cast are taking it in their stride.

“We are constantly overwhelmed at the talent that Yeovil has to offer and this show is no different. This show really has it all by way of music that draws the audience in from the very opening number, to songs that leave you tingling with goose bumps and humour galore!LEISURE: Yeovil Amateur Operatic Society is razor sharp with Sweeney Todd

“It has an amazing ensemble that is so brilliantly directed by our production team with Martin, Lynne and Sheila - they bring the story alive!”

The story of Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street, revolves around a London barber who was shipped off to Australia for a crime he did not commit by the evil Judge Turpin who lusted after his beautiful wife.

The barber returns to London after 15 years and calling himself Sweeney Todd, the now mad man vows revenge, applying his razor to unlucky customers and shuttling the bodies down to Mrs Lovett who uses them in her meat-pie shop.

Though many fall to his blade, he will not be satisfied until he slits Turpin’s throat!

It has all the hallmarks of a classic production from YAOS and people are being encouraged to snap up their tickets as quickly as possible.

Edward Creswick is taking the lead role of Sweeney Todd, while Kern Champion is playing Mrs Lovett.

Phone the Octagon box office on 01935-422884 to buy tickets or go online to www.octagon-theatre.co.uk .

It should be noted that it has been advised that the production of Sweeney Todd is suitable for people aged 14 and over.
