GLOVERS NEWS: Late strike puts Yeovil Town into the Semi-Finals

THE Checkatrade Football League Trophy may have been heavily criticised over the season and it has hardly grabbed the imagination of supporters – but Yeovil Town are now just ONE GAME away from making a Wembley Stadium final.

A late strike by Francois Zoko gave Yeovil a 3-2 win on Tuesday (February 6, 2018) night at Huish Park against Fleetwood Town to set up a Semi-Final showdown at League One outfit Shrewsbury Town later this month.

The Semi-Final match at Shrewsbury will be held on Tuesday, February 27, 2018, and will be screened live on Sky Sports TV with a 7.45pm kick-off.

The winners of that game will then head to Wembley on Sunday, April 8, 2018, where they will meet Lincoln City in the final who defeated Chelsea Under-21s in their Semi-Final on Tuesday (February 6, 2018) in a dramatic penalty shoot-out.

Fleetwood broke the deadlock in the Quarter-Final match at Huish Park – played in front of 1,314 spectators including 33 visiting fans – on 17 minutes through Cian Bolger.

But Bolger turned hero to zero on 23 minutes when he scored an own goal to put Yeovil back on level terms.

Corey Whelan then fired Yeovil into the lead early in the second-half with a well-taken goal, but Fleetwood hit back through former Glovers’ loanee Jordy Hiwula on 80 minutes after keeper Artur Krysiak had made a mistake.

The game looked to be heading for a penalty shootout (no extra-time in the Checkatrade Trophy) but then up popped leading scorer Francois Zoko, who had come on as a second-half substitute, to strike home a winner in time added-on.
