GLOVERS NEWS: Back to back wins for Yeovil Town

YEOVIL Town secured successive Sky Bet League Two victories to improve their survival changes with a 2-0 success over Cambridge United.

After a dull opening period the game sprang into life in the second period on Saturday (February 3, 2018) with Nathan Smith putting the Glovers 1-0 up on 54 minutes and then super-sub Alex Fisher firing home with his first touch of the ball just 30 seconds after coming on in the closing stages.

The first-half was easily forgettable from Yeovil with Cambridge holding the slight upper hand and that continued after the break.

But that changed when Smith scored after the ball was headed back across goal by Omar Sowunmi following Alefe Santos’ free-kick.

Cambridge still pressurised in search of an equaliser, but could not get that elusive break and so it grew increasingly inevitable, therefore, that Yeovil would secure the points with another goal.

Francois Zoko was subbed on 84 minutes for Alex Fisher and within 30 seconds the replacement had doubled Yeovil’s advantage.

Rhys Browne, who had also come on as a second-half substitute, did really well down the wing and pulled the ball back for Fisher to fire home and put Yeovil 2-0 up.

Jevani Brown hit the woodwork soon after for Cambridge, but Yeovil held on for a vital three-point haul in their quest for Football League safety.

Yeovil only had two shots on target during the 90 minutes and both of them were converted – the telling factor of the match.

The crowd at Huish Park was 2,569.

The result saw Yeovil move up to 18th spot with 34 points from 30 matches played and they are now seven points clear of the relegation zone.

Two successive victories for Yeovil now since the FA Cup Fourth Round disappointment against Manchester United – a good response from the Glovers.
