GLOVERS NEWS: Late goal costs dear again for Yeovil Town as Otis Khan sees red

A GOAL deep into time added-on saw Chesterfield snatch a 2-1 victory on Saturday (January 20, 2018) afternoon at Yeovil Town in the Sky Bet League Two.

It looked as if Yeovil would take all three points after battling back from 1-0 down with ten minutes to go.

But it was not to be as Kristian Dennis placed his shot into the net after beating Yeovil keeper Artur Krysiak in a race to the ball.

Worse was to follow for Yeovil when Otis Khan was shown a straight red card for barging the referee while remonstrating with the official over an alleged infringement ahead of Chesterfield’s winner.

A great goal from Lewis Wing looked as if he had salvaged a point for Yeovil just a few minutes earlier.

Midfielder Wing, on loan at Huish Park from Middlesbrough, picked the ball up some 25 yards out and unleashed a terrific shot which the visiting goalkeeper had no chance in stopping on 80 minutes.

The Glovers held the upper hand in the first-half of the contest without getting the all-important breakthrough as the opening 45 minutes finished 0-0.

But it was Chesterfield who got the opening goal of the afternoon on 66 minutes when Louis Reed fired home a free-kick from 20 yards out.

It was not long after when Wing was introduced to the fray from the Yeovil bench.

The result leaves Yeovil down in 21st in the League Two table on 28 points from 28 matches played – just two points above the drop zone.

Next up for Yeovil Town – the visit of Manchester United in the FA Cup Fourth Round at Huish Park on Friday (January 26, 2018) and it looks as if the Glovers will be missing key player Otis Khan through suspension following his sending-off.
