GLOVERS NEWS: Yeovil Town suffer defeat on dramatic night

YEOVIL Town were left kicking themselves for not getting anything for their efforts on Friday (December 29, 2017) after losing out in a seven-goal thriller at Morecambe.

The Glovers had been 2-0 up and then 3-2 up, but were pegged back by a resilient Morecambe side who eventually won 4-3 at the death.

Yeovil got off to the perfect start at Morecambe’s Globe Arena when Jake Gray gave the visitors the lead inside the opening minute of the action.

Morecambe nearly responded when Vadaine Oliver saw a long range shot from 35 yards out come back off the left post on 13 minutes.

But it was Yeovil who doubled their advantage on 17 minutes when Gray provided the assist to see Otis Khan net with a well-taken effort from the edge of the box.

Morecambe reduced the deficit on 72 minutes when Oliver scored with a header from close range.

Callum Lang then pulled the home team level on 79 minutes with a header as Yeovil had suddenly a two-goal lead wiped out in the space of seven minutes.

But Yeovil regained the lead on 84 minutes when Omar Sowunmi scored with a header from the centre of the box to put the Glovers 3-2 up.

And no sooner had the Yeovil celebrations died down and Morecambe had drawn level again with Lang netting his second of the night.

But there was still more to come with Morecambe claiming a winner deep into time added on when Kevin Ellison scored with a header having met Alex Kenyon’s cross in the centre of the box to give the home side a memorable 4-3 victory.

The result left Yeovil in 19th spot in the League Two table on 27 points.

It was a gut wrenching experience for Yeovil with them having looked on course to have chalked up a third straight League Two victory over the Christmas period.

To come away from Morecambe with nothing would be a bitter disappointment.
