SCHOOL NEWS: A Winter Concert with Preston School

MUSICAL students at Preston School in Yeovil got people feeling in a wintery festive mood with a seasonal concert ... and even the school staff choir got involved.

The Preston School Winter Concert on Thursday (December 7, 2017) showcased a fine array of talent from solo singers to choirs, rock music to seasonal favourites, individual instrumentalists to the full school orchestra.

The music was diverse from Metallica to Leonard Cohen and from Wham to Bob Dylan - with one of the star performances coming from the staff choir’s rendition of the Little Drummer Boy with the school’s Jonathan Peace taking on the lead role in true Bing Crosby and Davie Bowie style.

Although the whole show was a great evening of entertainment other notable performances came from guitar playing soloist Amy Overd who gave a super rendition of the Wham classic Last Christmas, while Ellie Bowers-Cook did really well on the recorder with another festive cracker Fairytale of New York.

The senior choir’s performance of One Day Like This, the well-known Elbow song, was a hit with the audience, while special mention must go to soloist singers Rachel Boote and Anastacia Hayward who performed admirably despite having throat problems.

The list of performances could go on and on, but Preston principal Gregg Morrison summed it up when he said everyone had played their part in a wonderful night of entertainment.
