YEOVIL NEWS: More roadworks planned for Sherborne Road in Yeovil

THE next phase of vital improvements on a key road in Yeovil are due to take place early next year – although the roadworks will take place at night.

A major drainage upgrade was carried out on the A30 Sherborne Road back in July to tackle the underlying structural issues which had led to problems with cracking and potholes.

This work was a success and the next step is to resurface the carriageway. All work will take place at night to keep disruption to a minimum.

Preparatory works are provisionally planned to start on Monday, January 29, 2018, with temporary traffic lights in place for approximately seven nights. Full carriageway resurfacing will then follow in early February with the road closed overnight for approximately nine nights.

Cllr John Woodman, Somerset County Council’s highways spokesman, said: “We know how critical this road is to Yeovil and are investing in long-term improvements.

“In the first phase we showed our commitment to the town by working 24/7 and completing complex drainage work in just four days.

“We now need to go back and finish the job, and will be working at night to keep any further disruption to a minimum.

“Our plans are at an early stage and we will provide more information nearer the time, but we’re publishing advance notice now to give people plenty of time to prepare.”
