YEOVIL NEWS: Mayor and Co given tough choice in Christmas shop window competition

TRADERS in Yeovil town centre have been congratulated for getting into the festive spirit by decorating their shop windows with a seasonal Christmas theme.

Judging for the Christmas Window Dressing Competition took place in Yeovil on Friday, November 24, 2017 with all shopfronts within the town centre having been entered automatically

The judging trio of Mayor of Yeovil, Cllr Darren Shutler, Yeovil Chamber of Trade president David Woan and Amanda Card, clerk to Yeovil Town Council and treasurer of the Love Yeovil group, scored the streets casting their eye over all those who had managed to capture and display some Christmas Spirit.

The Mayor said: “It’s wonderful to see that so many shops have taken part in making the town centre look Christmassy. We had a very difficult decision to make this year on choosing winners.”

Although it was a tough choice for the judges, they deliberated, cogitated and declared that the joint winners for the Christmas Window Dressing Competition for 2017 were Eleanor Florence on Princes Street, who displayed the perfect snow scene, and Waterloo Music on Hendford, who used their musical instruments cleverly in their display).

The best corporate display was Laura Ashley in the Quedam Shopping Centre. There was also a special recognition for PSJ Jewellers on the High Street and Bee Floral also in the Quedam.

Amanda added: “Congratulations to everyone who took part!”

Late night Christmas shopping in Yeovil town centre will be held on every Thursday evening between now and the big day!
