MEMBERS of Yeovil Round Table and their guests were assured to be in safe hands on Friday (November 17, 2017) when Liverpool Football Club goalkeeping legend Bruce Grobbelaar was the guest speaker at the fundraising organisation’s annual charity luncheon.

Grobbelaar made 440 appearances during a success-strewn Anfield career which spanned from 1981 to 1994.YEOVIL NEWS: Liverpool legend is a hit at Yeovil Round Table charity luncheon

During that time he helped Liverpool to win the old First Division championship, now the Premier League, on six occasions, the FA Cup and League Cup three times apiece, five FA Charity Shield wins, and the European Cup in 1984 when they defeated Roma 4-2 on penalties after extra-time.

The Yeovil Round Table charity luncheon, which has become a key part of the group’s annual social and fundraising calendar, saw £24,000 distributed during former chairman’s Gareth Jones’ year in office to South Somerset Mind, Yeovil Opportunity Group, Fiveways, Apollo Swimming Club and the Lord’s Larder.

Round Table chairman Stuart Grimster thanked everyone who attended the charity lunch, held once again at the Manor Hotel in Yeovil, and said that around £22,000 had been raised at the event.

Yeovil Round Table was joined by members of the local business community and supporters including Yeovil Mayor, Cllr Darren Shutler.
