YEOVIL NEWS: Radio Camelot duo leave the hospital airwaves

THE warming tones of Mike Evans have been comforting patients at Yeovil District Hospital since 1973.

But Mike has now decided to call it a day after an amazing 44 years of volunteering for the hospital’s Radio Camelot service.

For several years Mike presented with his wife Nicola, but after she sadly passed away he was joined in the studio by Daphne Patrick and in recent years they had delighted patients on alternate Thursday evenings.

Daphne has also announced her departure from Radio Camelot and her fellow volunteers at the hospital radio station have said they will both be greatly missed.

Radio Camelot broadcasts daily to patients, visitors and staff across the hospital from its studio on level 2.

The team has been broadcasting since the hospital opened in 1973 and offers a range of specialist programmes across the week including its own version of Desert Island Discs, Classics on Camelot and The Country Show.

A popular part of the schedule is the daily request programme which is broadcast nightly from 8.15pm.

If you would like to request a song for a friend or relative in the hospital, please email the Radio Camelot team on radio.camelot@ydh.nhs.uk making sure you include the person’s name, ward and bay number.
You can find out more about Radio Camelot via its website at http://radiocamelot.co.uk/ .
